SEALANTS

SEALANTS

sEALANTS
Sealants are a very thin coating bonded into the tiny grooves and fissures of teeth. Many of these small grooves are so small that the bristle of a toothbrush can't fit into them. Thus, these areas are more likely to decay than the more cleansable areas of the tooth. We strongly advise sealants, on adult molar teeth, as they have a long standing track record of decreasing the likelihood of decay on those surfaces. The best time to get sealants is as soon as possible after eruption of adult molars, with the average age being about six to seven years of age. Second molars erupt around the age of twelve and
again sealants can prove effective in decay prevention. Feel free to
call and ask us about sealants or we can discuss them at your next
visit.
