Periodontal Disease
The best way to tell is to visit your dentist. An astonishing 80% of people have some form of gum disease and most them are not aware of it. Periodontitis is a relatively silent disease, most patients do not experience discomfort or they show mild symptoms. Bleeding gums and loose teeth are the most common complaints.

Periodontitis is developed when plaque, food debris and bacteria are left on the teeth and gums. These substances irritate gum tissue and allow the bacteria to feed on these substances and to release acids and toxin that inflame the gums and begin to destroy the bone. People that smoke and or chew tobacco are likely to have more plaque and tartar than nonusers.
